Managing an ever-evolving business is a daily challenge. The word ‘perseverance’ is definitely one with which I have found myself becoming more familiar over the years of being the CEO of Identity. Understanding that giving up is not an option and changing your mindset to think of challenges as opportunities is a huge learning curve.

However, once you start to view setbacks and obstacles as chances to grow, perseverance becomes a part of your daily working life without you really knowing it! Below are some of my favourite quotes about perseverance – helpful to look at when the going gets tough.

It is important to set yourself and your company goals that are both achievable and aspirational. In order to reach them, you will need to display a number of qualities, including passion, teamwork, stamina and responsibility. But, above all, to truly succeed and make it to the top, you will need perseverance.

The importance of perseverance in event planning

“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other,” said Walter Elliot. It is fair to say that the planning, delivery and production of high-profile events whether in person, virtually, or hybrid is no easy task. We have been honoured to work on a number of government and corporate events from the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Netflix and more. With complex briefs, delivering to budget and the involvement of multiple stakeholders, there are many things to consider. However, from executing these events, we have learnt that meticulous planning, persevering through challenging situations and a sprinkling of last-minute ingenuity and improvisation are key to delivering a successful and unforgettable human experience.

Persevering for New Year’s Eve

Our work on the New Year’s Eve 2022 celebrations delivered moments that matter and commemorated the power of perseverance for many key moments throughout 2022, from the Lionesses’ historic victory against Germany in the Women’s European Championship, to 50 years of London Pride, as well as the war in Ukraine.

Persevering with climate action for COP26

We were proud to support the delivery of COP26 in Glasgow which brought world leaders together to enhance conversations about climate change. We had just under eight weeks to deliver this high-profile global summit. This was complex project, spanning two zones and set against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic. “It always seems impossible until it is done,” words I remembered the late South Africa leader Nelson Mandela once saying. Despite the many challenges we faced, COP26 was a success. We learnt many ways of delivering an event of this scale and complexity and have applied the knowledge from COP26 to future high-profile events.

Delivering the King’s Coronation

The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Saturday 6 May was a historic day and we were delighted to collaborate with our client, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to deliver it. Despite the complexities of the planning, production and delivery of this high-profile occasion, it was a success.

Thousands of spectators lined the capital, while a global audience tuned in to watch history in the making. We collaborated with our client to deliver a truly memorable experience for all. The late Brazilian footballer, Pelé once said, “success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” This is a great quote, and one could say sums up our delivery of the Coronation.

Conclusion

Delivering events and event planning is a journey intertwined with varying challenges. There are unexpected obstacles, where your end goal should always be the flawless delivery of an event. Within this collaborative process, the quality of perseverance is a determining factor, comprising determination, adaptability and commitment together, which all contribute towards making necessary refinements as challenges arise.

In conclusion, the magnitude of perseverance shouldn’t be understated. It motivates us to handle said challenges and revamp them into opportunities for success and growth. We can orchestrate exceptional and unforgettable events by staying flexible and upholding a resilient work ethic, offering a human experience for attendees to remember.
