Licensing Expo 2019 – Identity’s Highlights From The Event
For more than 35 years Licensing Expo has connected the world’s most influential entertainment, character, art and corporate brands and agents with tens of thousands of licensees, retailers, and manufacturers from more than 65 countries in an event that celebrates the $280 billion global brand licensing industry.
This year’s show took place on 4-6 June at Mandalay Bay Convention Centre, Las Vegas, and in this article we will look at our highlights from Licensing Expo 2019.
Universal Brand Development
Without a doubt the star of the show, the Universal Brand Development booth at Licensing Expo was a complete visual feast, offering a veritable smorgasbord of eye-catching delights and footfall attractors. Featuring beautiful, ultra-crisp graphics and super-sized video content that elegantly balanced Universal’s rich archive of modern and vintage IP, the stand included a huge Trolls World Tour beatbox and no less than two t-shirt printing stations. Just exceptional!
The LINE FRIENDS stand never disappoints and this year was no exception, with cuddly bear Brown and co prominently displayed alongside the brand’s new BN21 IP with dazzling effect accompanied by looping music that kept the booth buzzing!
With the Angry Birds 2 movie set to launch later this year, Rovio’s updated stand utilised a winter-inspired colour palette and creative treatment which included super-sharp graphics, photo wall, huge product display and a playable demo of their new augmented reality (AR) gaming experience. Plus, of course, lots and lots of those pesky pigs!
With one of the largest footprints at the show, Sony incorporated the PlayStation and Sony Pictures builds back-to-back in a single booth, featuring a huge range of IP and products alongside a giant retro PlayStation photo prop and some items from the new PlayStation-inspired Pottery Barn range.
The Sesame Workshop space highlighted fan favourites such as Cookie Monster, Elmo and Big Bird alongside a sparse, minimalist backdrop which really brought them to life within a clean and highly original environment. Overhead, the creative use of hanging boxes ensured a good level of stand visibility for wayfinding, celebrating the non-profit’s recent 50 year anniversary.
Bravado International Group
Part of Universal Music Group, Bravado is a leading global provider of consumer, lifestyle and branding services to recording artists and entertainment brands around the world. Their booth at Licensing Expo was elegant and minimalist, making good use of sharp lightboxes, spinning overhead boxed signage and a highly creative lighting truss.
There are so many wonderful booths and activations at Licensing Expo that this list could keep on going and going, so see below for a gallery of other favourites from the show!
